  • Face Coverings from Thursday 27th January 2022

    Wed 26 Jan 2022 PH

We have received the following advice on face coverings from the DfE:
From 27 January 2022, we no longer recommend that face coverings should be worn by any pupils, students, staff or adult visitors when moving around premises, such as in corridors and communal areas.
Everyone should follow wider advice on face coverings outside of education settings, including on transport to and from education settings.

From Thursday, 27th January, we will therefore make wearing of face coverings in school optional.  Students are still required to wear them on dedicated school transport and on public transport.  Some teachers, for personal health reasons, may ask students to wear their face coverings in lessons and we ask that you encourage your son/daughter to respect and comply with this request.  Students are also encouraged to continue with twice weekly lateral flow testing or daily testing should they be a close contact of a positive case.  We have a large stock of Lateral Flow Tests which students can collect from Student Services.

  • Horticulture Unit Bulb Orders

    Wed 19 Jan 2022 PH

Many thanks to everyone who ordered bulbs from our Horticulture Unit.  They are now all sold and ParentPay is closed.  We raised a fantastic £966 which will go a long way towards replacing the covering on our polytunnel.  Thank you very much for your support from Mrs Watson and the Horticulture students.

  • Changes to the self-isolation period for those who test positive for COVID-19

    Mon 17 Jan 2022 PH

From Monday 17 January, people who are self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with a lateral flow device (LFD) test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.

The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.

If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.

Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.

  • Our Friend Peter Seabrook MBE

    Sun 16 Jan 2022 PH

It was with great sadness that we learned this weekend of the sudden death of our friend and mentor Peter Seabrook MBE.  Peter was a great supporter of our desire to encourage the next generation of horticulturalists at Pershore High School.  He was incredibly supportive, always positive and an inspiration to young people, as well as those old enough to remember him on Gardeners' World in the 1970s!

Earlier this year Peter encouraged our students to grow Poppins Chrysanthemums for the Chelsea Flower Show; it was his great wish that students would learn the pleasure of working in a garden and developing their practical skills in horticulture, something he had enjoyed all his life.

Anne Watson, teacher of Horticulture said, "Peter was a great supporter of the RHS Horticulture Unit and gave advice and support as well as providing wonderful challenges such as the opportunity to contribute to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.  He made a surprise visit to RHS Wisley when Kristian Foxley got through to the finals of RHS Young School Gardener of the Year in order to show his support.

He was the Guest of Honour at our 2018 Presentation Evening  and all those who attended will remember him for his passionate and inspirational talk. He was a wonderful, kind man who was my inspiration as a child and became my guru in later years, it was an honour to work with him and he will be sadly missed within the Horticulture Industry."

Peter's support for horticulture at Pershore High School and practical and vocational education in general will be greatly missed - a true gentleman, sadly mourned.

  • Fundraising for our RHS Horticulture Unit

    Tue 11 Jan 2022 PH

The RHS Horticulture Unit is an important facility within the school grounds and many students have benefitted from it; often going on to further their Horticulture Education at Pershore College, leading to a career within the industry. We are raising funds to help with the cost of replacing our polytunnel covering, which has come to the end of its life; this facility is an essential part of our unit and is in daily use.

We have received a very kind donation of a large quantity of bulbs from Hayloft Nurseries and we are offering these for sale at £1 per bag (rrp £14.99).

The selection of bulbs we have are Allium Collections, Tulip Bulbs of various varieties, Nectarsocardum Sicillium and some hyacinths. We are offering a mixed pack of 5 bags for £5.00 payment to be made to Parentpay for the Horticulture Poly Tunnel Fund. Once your order has been confirmed horticulture students will make up your order and deliver it to your son/daughter for them to bring home.

We hope that you will support our work by buying some bulbs for your garden.  Orders will be filled on a first come first served basis whilst stocks last.

  • Thank you for your support with LFD Testing

    Thu 06 Jan 2022 PH

Thank you for your continued support with LFD testing at home; we have only had a very few positive test results since we reopened for students yesterday.  Please see the information below regarding PCR testing:

Confirmatory PCR tests to be temporarily suspended for positive lateral flow device (LFD) test results

Confirmatory PCR tests following a positive lateral flow device (LFD) test result are to be temporarily suspended from Tuesday 11 January. This will mean that anyone who receives a positive LFD test result will be required to self-isolate immediately and will not be required to take a confirmatory PCR test.

  • Face Coverings in School from Wednesday 5th January 2022

    Mon 03 Jan 2022 PH

From Sunday 2 January, it is recommended that face coverings are worn in classrooms where pupils in year 7 and above are educated. The advice is short term only, to support pupils and teachers as they return to school this term and builds on the existing proportionate guidance that recommends face coverings for all adults in communal areas of all settings. The advice on face coverings in classrooms will be in place until Wednesday 26 January, when Plan B regulations are currently scheduled to expire, at which point it will be reviewed.

  • CORRECTION: LFD Testing for those who have had COVID-19 within 90 days or who are close contacts

    Mon 03 Jan 2022 PH

Corrected Guidance received  from the DfE on 2nd January 2022 states that:

Even if someone has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days, they are strongly encouraged to take part in LFD testing on-site at school or at home once they have completed their isolation period for their prior infection.

Since Wednesday 22 December, the 10 day self-isolation period for people who record a positive PCR test result for COVID-19 has been reduced to 7 days in most circumstances, unless you cannot test for any reason.

Individuals may now take LFD tests on day 6 and day 7 of their self-isolation period. Those who receive two negative test results are no longer required to complete 10 full days of self-isolation. The first test must be taken no earlier than day 6 of the self-isolation period and tests must be taken 24 hours apart. This also applies to children under 5, with LFD testing at parental or guardian discretion. If both these test results are negative, and you do not have a high temperature, you may end your self-isolation after the second negative test result and return to your education setting from day 7.

Daily testing for close contacts of COVID-19

People who are fully vaccinated, or children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years and 6 months, identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19, should take an LFD test every day for seven days and continue to attend their setting as normal, unless they have a positive test result or develop symptoms at any time.
