Physical Education and Sport
Every student in KS3 receives four lessons of physical activity per fortnight. The curriculum map runs in line with the competition calendar to foster enthusiasm and encourage participation at extra curricular clubs to ensure that students receive high quality teaching within lessons and can then use these skills to represent the school at a district and county level. School to club links are promoted within school and at South Worcestershire School Sports Partnership events.
The programme for KS3 is structured to build upon the required core skills, progressing to advanced skills and are all experienced through isolated, conditioned and game situations. Students are split into groups. The curriculum map is adapted to meet the needs of the individuals within these groups.
Leadership within KS3 is seamlessly involved within lessons. In KS3, students embark on a sport education module which sees students lead warm ups, umpire games and provide specific feedback to improve their own performance and that of their peers.
As well as traditional sports, fitness is also embedded into the curriculum at both KS3 and KS4. At KS3, students begin to understand key terminology and content that is covered within examination Physical Education, covering areas such as fitness components, health, muscles, bones and the importance of exercise. This gives pupils an insight into the content they experience in KS4 when choosing an exam course.
Students are provided with the opportunity to experience the world of sport through a variety of trips organised by the Physical Education department every year. Students are invited to attend professional sports matches, trips to Worcester University and attend fixtures against other schools.
