Stem Subject Internships

Pershore High School is involved in a Paid Internship Scheme run through the Prince Henry’s SCITT for STEM subjects; specifically Mathematics and Physics.

This Internship gives second year university students an opportunity to gain four quality weeks experience in school in the shortage subject areas of Mathematics and Physics. This experience includes being attached to a tutor group, assisting pupils in the classroom, taking starter activities and opportunity of graduating to taking a full lesson. This experience has encouraged our interns to apply for a teacher training course and we are delighted that one of our former interns is now a fully qualified Maths teacher.

We have welcomed Maths Interns into Pershore High School for the past three years. Here is what two of our Maths Interns had to say:

Andy

‘I have thoroughly enjoyed my four weeks Math Teaching Internship at Pershore High School. The staff and pupils have all made me feel incredibly welcome from day one. The whole experience was very well organised, resulting in countless opportunities for me to grow and develop professionally. The pupils have also been outstanding; their patience, enthusiasm and hard work have made my experience a very positive one.’

Oli

‘I have learnt a lot during this Internship Programme gaining the maximum amount of experience that four weeks of teaching could offer. With friendly staff and well behaved pupils, I have felt welcome and supported every step of the way. The Maths staff and Intern Mentor were a tremendous help in guiding my experience here, from observations and starter activities to full lessons. I can safely say that this Internship was a success for me and I would recommend it to others without doubt.’

Anyone interested in this scheme (Mathematics and Physics) should contact Mr Andy Duffy at Prince Henry’s High School for further information.
